Another TV show I highly recommend is Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi on Amazon.
Notaro is famous for the artful, exquisite, poignant way she has used comedy to speak about her battle with breast cancer.
In One Mississippi, Notaro plays a character also named Tig, and the series very closely mirrors her own life.
In both season 1 and season 2 (the latter aired this past September 8), she explores the effects of being molested by her step-grandfather.
This is only in the fictional show. Tig Notaro has not stated, publicly, that she, the actor, was also molested. And if so, by whom.
Whether or not this really happened to her, she nails the absurdity of these histories¾the way many of us carry around pedophilia memories like a goddamn colostomy bag. We’d like nothing more than to ditch these bags of shit, but we can’t.
Another thing I love about this program is how the main character has many conversations with her family members about her abuse. Of course, they don’t understand why she’s still talking about all this…But she gets through to them….
Check out this series. I’m eagerly awaiting Season 3!
